May 2002 Leratong Hospice has its first Board meeting

May 2003 Arch Bishop George Daniel blesses our site.

July 2003 Construction begins.

May 2004 Certificate of Occupancy is issued for Leratong.

June 2004 Induction and Orientation for Leratong staff

1 July 2004 We open our door to receive our first patient

August 2004 Graduation of Leratong nurses as Palliative Care specialists

28 October 2004 Official opening of Leratong and our Director wins Irish International Person of the Year Award.

March 2005 Our nurses and Irish nurses exchange for two weeks training and Experience.

3 October 2005 Screening of BBC Documentary “Living and Loss on African Story” The story of life in Leratong Also Leratong wins Community Builder of the year award for Gauteng

January 2006 3rd year Medical students from the University of Limpopo begin attending Leratong, 10 at a time for palliative care experience.

March 2006 We begin the long road to accreditation with a HPCA Baseline survey of our polices and procedures. Deputy Prime Minister from Ireland visits Leratong.

1 July 2006 Leratong Hospice celebrates its 2nd Birthday.
November 2006 Rural health initiative begin to send doctors to Leratong for orientation into Medical life in South Africa.

December 2006 Anglo American, Foundation for Professional Development and Leratong meet to agree the development of a wellness centre attached to our church to be built on next site.

January 2007 Leratong forms a support group for its discharged patients. Every 2nd Saturday. Pretoria University sends its 5th year medical students for palliative care experience.

28 February 2007 Our Director is attacked and shot at an armed robbery at the hospice. He will be out of Action until November.
May 2007 May Ball in Europa Hotel, Belfast raises R1.5 million.

November 2007 Our Director arrives back to a huge reception. Irish Television make documentary of the occasion “My brother the father”

December 2007 Ritrovo Restaurant hosts the first of many Christmas dinners for Leratong staff- Excellent

January 2008 The Executive Mayor of Pretoria visits Leratong.

15 January 2008 The Prime Minister of Ireland, Mr. Bertie Ahern visits Leratong.

12 February 2008 Work begins on the church, clinic, and crèche building

April 2008 Patricia Kutu, a Leratong Carer, Launches the National Lottery Draw live on TV.

May 2008 To celebrate hospice week, our staff give information talks to every medical establishment in our area.

1 July 2008 Leratong celebrates its 4th Birthday.

22 November 2008 The official opening of Maria Ma Tshepo Church, Tshepong Pre-School and Leratong Wellness Centre

March 2009 Council for Health Service Accreditation of Southern Africa, carry out their accreditation survey of Leratong.

June 2009 Our senior staff begin counselling course called Focusing.

1st July 2009 Leratong celebrates 5th Birthday.

August 2009 Leratong wins the Gauteng Service Excellence from Department of Health

September 2009 We received our accreditation award at the HPCA Annual conference- 98%

December 2009 We receive gym equipment to open a gym for patients and staff Wellness.
